Weapons:
Being successful
as the Predator is what the MOD is all about. Although, this can be a very
tough feat when it is you against 10 "trigger happy" Marines. The most
important thing to note while playing as the Predator are the limitations
of the weapons. The Impulse Cannon, with the new tweaks, is an OK weapon.
The speed is the same as a normal Rocket Launcher (except the rockets;
they are faster than normal), but half it's splash damage. The radius of
the blast is also made smaller. Without this, the weapon is hard to use.
The rockets move too slow and leave a blue trail allowing Marines to locate
you. I know what you are saying, "Not use the Impulse Cannon? Then what
am I suppose to use?!?!?!" The answer...the Accelerated Ion Rifle (railgun).
The Predator has a modified version of the Railgun that does a lot of damage.
Normally, one shot from this can kill your opponent, so make sure you aim
carefully. I admit that hitting moving target is hard, but that is where
the Predator's stalking ability comes in to play.
Moving Around:
The Predator's
strength is it's ability sneak around the level quickly and quietly. This
can be tricky, because to see where you are going, you need light, and
if you have played this mod before, you know that there is no light. You
could use your light scope to navigate the map, but when the Marines see
the only blue light... they come and investigate. This usually ends up
with 5 Marines and rockets flying all around you... you can guess what
happens next. ;) The best way to navigate a map is to memorize the level.
Also, try to find landmarks to guide you to where you are. This can be
a weapon, ammo, the sky, or water. By now, you know the basics of running
around the level. But you need to know how and what to do when you find
a Marine.
Targeting:
Finding the
Marines can sometimes be tough, but your best bet is to run in the direction
of their flashlights. When a Marine has his flashlight on, he is easy to
spot. A green glow will indicate where a Marine is looking. A red glow
will surround the Marine if he has the flashlight on. Make sure you aim
well, because you only get one shot. You can use the gunscope to zoom in,
if the Marine is too far away. After you take a shot, whether you hit or
miss, leave the area. Any local Marines will be attracted to the sound
of your Accelerated Ion Rifle, and come to investigate. If you are spotted
at anytime, RUN!!
Escaping:
The trick
to scoring the most frags is to be the Predator as long as possible. This
means staying alive. When you miss a target, they'll get angry and chase
after you. Try to lose them by running around corners. Take out your Impulse
Cannon and fire at the corner you just passed to kill any Marines following
you. The Marine should have his flashlight on, so he shouldn't be to hard
to spot. If you manage to get away, then you have probably taken some damage.
Find a nice secluded area that you can guard until you can regenerate you
health back to over 100 points.
Playing Style:
The Predator
is not a weak creature, but its inability to pick up armor and heath gives
it a disadvantage in a prolonged fight. The best way to play is to never
stay in the same place too long, and don't get into duels. Hit-and-run
is your best tactic.

Weapons:
The Marine
can pick up, and use, any normal weapon in the game, but the Rocket Launcher
is suggested, because of its splash damage. When you find the Predator,
you should try to lob as many rockets toward his general direction, in
hope that you actually hit it. Don't use a railgun because, "you cannot
hit what you cannot see". The only chance you have at shooting the Predator
is when you are really close... and using a railgun that close is really
difficult.
Moving Around:
The one thing
that a Marine does not want to do is be a target. To avoid being seen,
try to learn the map so that you can run through it with out having to
turn on your flashlight. Look at the Predator "Moving Around" section to
see how to do this. If you do need to use the flashlight, don't shine it
on other marines. This will get you and them killed. The only time you
should turn on your light is when you think the Predator is near. Even
then, you should try to turn off your light as soon a possible. When chasing
a Predator, turn on your light, but when the Predator turns a corner, cut
your lights so it doesn't know when you turn the corner. If you pick up
a quad while playing, you should turn on your flashlight. While being a
quad, you glow blue. This makes you an easy target. So why not have your
light on so you know where you are going.
Targeting:
First, you
need to see what you are aiming at. Make sure that you are close to the
Predator, and then turn on your flashlight. To find a Predator, you should
stand still, and wait for him to shoot. Then, try to guess where the shots
came from, and investigate the area. It is also a good idea to use bait
to lure the Predator. The perfect bait is another Marine. Find one that
walks around with his lights on, cut off your light and trail him. The
Predator will most likely find and attack this Marine. Now you know where
the Predator is.
Escaping:
A well armed
and armored Marine should not have to retreat, but if you find yourself
overwhelmed, turn off your light and run aimlessly. Then, stand for about
30 seconds, or until you're sure the Predator is gone. Then proceed to
replenish your health, ammo, and armor.
Playing Style:
The Marine
should always be trying to find and kill the Predator. Don't forget the
object of the game is to be the Predator. The only way to kill a Predator
is to chase it, and keep taking off its health. You can absorb some damage
if you get some armor. You should work with your fellow Marines in trying
to kill the Predator, but make sure that you are the one that gets the
kill. (search and destroy)

Q2DM1 (The
Edge):
This is my
favorite map because of the open spaces. This has to be one of the best
maps for Night Hunters. There is no lava, acid, BFG (which doesn't exist
anymore), or Quad Damage. Two great places for sniping as the predator
is at the grenade launcher and the rocket launcher (the one overlooking
the water) Try to stay on one of the ledges and fire down on the marines.
For the marines: there is no combat armor (the red one) so you will be
susceptible to the predator.
Q2DM2 (Tokay's
Towers):
This is another
good Night Hunters map. Again it has no lava or acid, but this time there
is a quad damage. Again the predator should try to stay on the ledges and
snipe at the marines. There is a combat armor in this map, but make sure
the predator is somewhere else or you'll get railed.
Q2DM3 (The
Frag Pipe):
Even though
this level has lava and acid in it, it is still a good level. The lava
and acid pools in this map are not easy to fall into and they can be bypassed
while running though the level. There is a Quad damage but no combat armor.
This level has no real good hiding spot but it should n't be too hard for
the predator to stay alive.
Q2DM4 (Lost
Hallways):
This is a
horrible level to play in the dark. Remembering where you are was tough
enough when you could see, but it is impossible in the dark. There is a
quad damage, red armor and combat armor. There is some lava in this level,
but not enough that you fall into it all the time.
Q2DM5 (The
Pits):
This is another
good map. The predator should have no trouble staying alive on the map.
Some good spots to snipe at are the rocket launcher and the grenade launcher.
If you get into trouble try escaping through the sewer under the map. This
map also has combat armor and a quad.
Q2DM6 (Lava
Tomb):
As the name
implies this level is nothing but lava... :( I have considerable trouble
with this map. There is no good place for the predator to hide. Also if
you fall in to the lava, most of the time you can't get back out. Some
of the floors in this map drop out from under you and send you into lava.
Q2DM7 (The
Slimy Place):
Some people
have trouble with this map because of the acid, but I don't seem to have
too much trouble with it. I think the reason for this is that I know the
map very well that I know where the acid is and how to avoid it. There
is no quad but there is a combat armor that is easily found. This map has
only one good sniper spot. There is a ledge over looking the rocket launcher
that is on a pedestal which can dip into the acid.
Q2DM8 (The
Warehouse):
I really hate
this map while playing it in the dark. If you go too far you could fall
off a walkway and lose some health, along with knowing where you are. I
find it really hard to navigate this map in the dark. If anyone has tips
for this map, you know what to do.
Thank
you for reading my ideas on how to play this great MOD. If you have any
comments or you would like to give your own strategies, use our message
board and I'll get back to you. I want to thank majoon for letting my write
this and putting it up. Also thanks to SkullCrusher for helping me with
the pictures. -D.F.A.
