: You guys should really base the power levels of the weapons based on ping, an HPB should have more powerful weapons and an lpb should have normal weapons. The one problem that comes in that makes the rail too powerful is the fact that it does have a faster than normal fire rate. If it is meant for stealth, why should it have a faster fire rate. Either decrease the fire rate or decrease the damage, not both.

Give us one MOD that has done this successfuly..? It screws with a play balance in a big way. LPB's still get "takin down" as it is. Any player that is very good in Q2 will do well in NH usualy, or after they sort out the differances. Time and again you see good DM players bag the pred' then jump out in the middle for frag-fights, kill a few and get wipped. Then they whine 'oh the pred' sux this way or that'.
The only MOD that has a "decent balacing aggent" is Lithium with its Rate clamping. No other MOD has anything to add to the fray. (pun intended)

There will always be LPB and HPW, Good, Bad and New players. With all combinations, like Bad LPB's and great HPW's (Some argue these are in fact HPB's). The online gaming will always be messy in this regaurd. The only time this is -seriously- important is for tornement play, and then everything is done to even the play-field most noteably a common server with balanced pings. Squat else.

Why do we get bugged so much about this?
....1, the flashlight itself is highly sensitive to ping and responce times. Making 'ping' extremely vissable.

....2, 'Tweeks' used to get better frame rates need to be OFF. Like 'cl_lights 0' give a few FPS more by killing off the 'light that follows rockets'. The FlashLIGHT is using these LIGHTS, oops.

....2a, In the Game itself these change dynamicaly. No lights and frame rates climb, a room full of marines with thier lights on and a bunch of Flares littiering the ground and frame rates drop. Also depends on your CPU horsepower and how much your 3D card requires.

....3, Smarts, NH actualy requires this in the form of game play tatics and action.

....4, People are differant. Some hate being the pred' and enjoy the hunt, some are addicted to the suspence ..then there are those that crave the tension of a -ton- marines on thier ass!

Its a game, designed for a differant form of fun. Like DM and CTF are quite differant forms. Alot of thought and testing gone into the 'balance'. More slight tweeks are comming, and NEW sugestions always welcome.

Perhaps one could setup LPB/HPW only servers, then they would miss the 'normal' rates.. LPB <100, HPW >250, normal 100-250. (I believe the trunover points have changed since q2 change its actual ping calculations. IE, null-modem rate went from 100 flat to about 140, so LPB would be <140.)

You had some good tips there. Hrmm, thinkin we should compile a file with "Confessions of a Predator" ...heh.
